Well, not exactly, but Simon Butterworth, a Peter Dickson (X-Factor voice man) impersonator has agreed to do the narration for the Num-Num trailer. Below is an updated version of the Num-Num animatic with his voiceover on it, with music from Kevin McLeod:
Simon Butterworth was also an X-Factor contestant famous for his rendition of Adele's 'Someone like you' in the voice of Peter Dickson. His audition video can be seen below:
I'm not sure on this voice over you know... If this is appealing to kids, I would think that a softer more gentle voice would match.. this is way too commercial action type voice.
ReplyDeleteALSO as it does sound like the X factor guy the connotations that come with the voice clash entirely with your animation
I dont think the decision to have this voice and music is a good one. It just doesnt fit inside the world of Num Num in my opinion. Its way too aggressive for kids and for what you are trying to achieve which seems to be a cute minimalism educational world. Go back to pocoyo and other kids shows you looked at. The voice overs are gentle, with a familiar British accent to appeal more. They all have a patience and care in their voice.
DeleteHi Bo - I'm with Alex on this one. While it's great that you've made this connection, I think an 'impression' isn't what your story needs - certainly not in this quiz show/ITV shout-a-thon stylee. Maybe Simon would agree to put in a completely different sort of vocal performance - something more appropriate to your world and your audience. If not, I suggest you re-cast and thank Simon for his time and effort, because he's done a great performance for you, but I just think it's an instance of 'face doesn't fit'.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback Alex and Phil!! A cute, educational world is exactly what I'm going for so I'm glad you've both let me know about the voiceover not fitting my world. I'll continue to explore various other avenues, maybe music only?? I'm also glad I got Simon to do the Peter Dickson voice now as oppose to later in the project, because if he didn't do it now, I would have done the Peter Dickson voice myself later :/ , atleast I've got time now to rework the audio language more. :)
ReplyDeleteOr maybe a 'Stephen Fryish', 'story time' sort of voice??
